The Michigan Titans Basketball Club was established in 2005 to provide an avenue for young student athletes throughout the Mid-Michigan area, many of them underprevileged, the opportunity to learn the game of basketball, developed their individual skill level, and to compete against other competitive basketball teams around the country.More importantly, the club has sought to emphasize with our student athletes the significance of having quality education, the importance of physical fitness, and their obligation to be good mentors, leaders and role models in their community.
The Micigan Titans place great emphasis on the role of the student athlete. Often, our staff takes advantage of the opportunity to mentor and tutor these young people in groups and/or individual settings. The coaches also make every effort to take an active role in the education process by requesting report cards and periodic updates from teachers on the progress of the team members. Additionally, whether utilizing the parents and teachers within the organization, or seeking outside assistance, our student athletes are able to request tutoring assistance when in need of support.
The Michigan Titans organization has grown throughout the years. In Febuary,2010 we were ascertained 501c(3) corporate status. This has allowed the organization to expand our fundraising activities to assist our families with the cost of participating. Equipment, practice facilites and tournament fees continue to rise along with unemployment and cost of living. The busier we can keep our youth, the less trouble they are apt to find so we continue to look for ways to supplement the cost to families. For many, an athleteic scholarship may be the only avenue for them to financially purse a college education.
